Overview of Services

Veterinary Pathology Section consists of Clinical Pathology Laboratory and Histology Laboratory.

Clinical Pathology Lab performs hematology and chemistry tests of blood samples from all species of research animals. In addition, the lab provides urinalysis, parasitology, bacteriology, viral serology tests and animal tumor biology services to all MDA investigators.

Histology Laboratory performs necropsy of all research animals, collection of tissue samples and histologic preparation of animal tissues including tissue fixation, grossing, paraffin embedding, microtomy, slides preparation, hematoxylin-and-eosin (H&E) staining and special chemistry stains. Our lab also provides immunohistochemistry (IHC) and multiplex immunofluorescence (IF) stains of over 150 optimized antibodies. Our digital pathology imaging capability includes bright-field digital scanning of H&E, IHC and special stained slides with Aperio AT2, and fluorescent digital scanning of multiplex IF stained slides with Aperio Versa, along with image analysis algorithms software for quantification and analysis of stained biomarkers or tissue lesions. Based on availability, the veterinary pathologist can provide histopathology diagnosis or pathology reports upon request and research collaboration.

Please contact Lab Supervisors for additional pathology services available, scheduling the necropsy and other services, and price information. We strongly recommend contacting us in advance for scheduling the necropsy and other pathology services since our lab's work is booked on first come first served basis.
