The Clinical Trial Laboratory Unit (CTLU) was created recently within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine division to facilitate institutional collaboration and participation in clinical trials.
The CTLU includes a dedicated core staff and streamlined infrastructure to expedite CLIA-grade biomarker development and testing for clinical trials offered to MD Anderson patients to customize treatment options.
Biomarkers are molecules that can indicate the presence of a condition or disease and are often used to measure how the body responds to therapies. Clinical researchers will have access to innovative and novel biomarker tests required to select patients to meet clinical trial eligibility requirements and assign personalized treatment based on the patient’s biomarker test result. “The CTLU was created to support biomarker-driven clinical trials so our patients may receive the best possible available therapy,” says Ignacio Wistuba, M.D., division head ad interim for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and chair of Translational Molecular Pathology.
